My cousin’s daughter, Ella, is just too sweet! Not only is she adorable, but she entertained us all with the ABCs and her infectious laugh. While her parents packed up to get ready to drive back to Montana, Ella and I went on a little morning walk–with one of her two big brothers–around the beautiful hunting lodge we were all staying in.

This week, I am joining photographers from around the world to share photos of Fatherly Love. My boys are extremely lucky–they have the best Father in the World! He has so much patience and spends hours with them– tossing around the football, creating intricate Lego sculptures, and explaining to them how everything works. He also has a stern, protective side to him…the side that has taken me by surprise, and is sculpting our boys into two wonderful little men.
I love the symmetry of the first two images…my youngest son having fun riding on a four wheeler…and being tossed in the air…but in both images his hand is firmly holding on to his dad…for security.
The second set of images is my attempt to get a Fatherly Love picture gone horribly wrong! It seems that everytime I get my camera out, it is a signal for my kids to push someone over…even their dad!

A few weeks ago, a mom called me to get updated photos of her with her girls. The last time she had done something like this, her oldest daughter was the age of her youngest daughter! She knows how fast time goes, and wanted to make sure and capture her younger daughter at this same stage. These photos are also going to be the perfect Father’s Day surprise for Dad!
This stunning flower we picked at the park brings out the beautiful green in Madison’s eyes.
The lilacs looked and smelled just amazing!
Riley has such a fun, spunky personality! She didn’t want to sit still, but I had fun chasing her.
We got so many good shots of the three of them together…it was hard to narrow them down.
We had fun smelling all the wildflowers…and weeds.
Madison is an amazing older sister…and a sweet, beautiful model.

Riley refused to stand in the grass with her barefeet–until she got home.
Look at Little Miss Personality:)
I couldn’t have posed her any cuter than she posed herself.
Beautiful!!

This week I am joining fifteen photographers from around the world on this assignment “treasure: What is your greatest treasure? What do you value the most”?
Yesterday, I got a phone call. And the next thing I know my four year old was waking up his seven year old brother saying “James, James, our Grandpa Lee went up to heaven”. My Grandpa is a rancher who was born and died on the most beautiful, pristine ranch in Wyoming. He was a true Wyoming cowboy and his loss will be felt greatly by his family–including eight grandchildren and fourteen (plus two on the way) great-grandchildren. I don’t have the energy to describe my feelings, but the first thing I did was look for a special snapshot I had taken three years ago of James with his Grandpa Lee. Actually I got obessed over finding this photo–that lived on my hardrive and perhaps a back-up CD. After a very stressful, painstaking search I found this TREASURED photo. The photo that showed the connection my grandpa had with one of my sons. The photo I took when I knew nothing about photography. When my son had on a random t-shirt. When I captured random things in the background. When my F/stop was 11 (photographers may laugh at me now). I immediately sent this to my print lab and ordered a special print for me and one for my son to treasure as he gets older. And I definitely learned a lesson–take photos that mean something–and print them out to TREASURE!
Grandpa Lee, you are loved and will be missed–you are a true treasure in this world, I don’t know anyone who was lucky enough to have a grandpa like you.

The boys have been very anxious for their Grandma from Tucson to arrive–and she came a few weeks early! She must have brought some sun from Arizona, because we had the most wonderful weather this weekend (except for the wind that blew away part of our picnic lunch). The boys enjoyed reading and snuggling with Grandma….and took advantage of the fresh grass and sunshine. I love these messy, crazy photos of my boys playing Kung Fu Panda/Leap Frog. As a photographer, I love capturing beautiful light, matching outfits, and cute poses, but as a mom, I think I will enjoy looking back at these photos much more! My boys and how they act everyday! I love to capture these types of moments for my clients too–hopefully their kids won’t get quite as many grass stains! Oh and the first peaches of the summer…my boys’ favorite fruit.
