One of my very best friends from The University of Arizona moved back, after college, to her hometown Temecula, California. We do our best to go out and visit every year, but now that we moved to Wyoming from Tucson, it has a been a little more difficult! I am so happy we got to see them this winter. It is a tradition for us to go to Old Town to shop and visit the Old Town Rootbeer Company. This year, I grabbed my camera to get some portraits of the girls and remember our fun time. Beach pics coming up next…

Two funny outtakes from our trip the Old Town Root Beer Company!! The root beer is delicious, I couldn’t get the little ones to stop drinking long enough to smile at the camera!

This session was taken at the end of December, on a beautiful, sunny Tucson day! Katie, is my sister’s best friend, so I have known her a longtime, and it was nice to meet her beautiful family. They recently moved from NYC to Berkeley, so for us to all be in Tucson at the same time took some planning. This session was extra special, because the location we shot at was the same place where they got married several years ago! Little Emily had just taken her first steps, so it was wonderful to capture this milestone. I just fell in love with her sweet, joyful personality–can’t wait to see her again!

The theme this week is shadows. I typically avoid shadows in my portraits, so it was fun to play with some different lighting (natural light of course) and get some shadows on my subjects face. I think it definitely adds a mysterious, timeless feel to this basic portrait of my son. As much as I miss the warm weather and beautiful colors of the outdoors this time of year–I do love simple, indoor portraits. I think they really focus in on the subject’s personality and eyes.

Some of my favorite sessions are with repeat clients! I photographed this adorable family last December, when Morgan was just a year old. She has grown so much the last year…and in a few short weeks will be a big sister. I followed Morgan (and her mom and dad) around The University of Arizona and we captured some great shots of them playing around, no posing required! Thanks guys for booking me when I come to Tucson, Arizona–I can’t wait to meet your new addition!

If anyone else in Tucson, AZ is interested in booking a session, my next trip will be April 7-14th! Please contact me as soon as possible, as I have already booked two sessions for that week.

This was taken on a very cold, windy day here in Rawlins, Wyoming! Apparently while I was enjoying balmy 70 degree weather in Tucson, Arizona and Southern California, my Wyoming friends were enjoying weather in the 40s…a lot warmer than the day these photos were taken. I really enjoyed working with this beautiful family–they were very relaxed and dressed perfectly for holiday portraits–despite the cold weather!

I am taking a moment today to reflect on 2011. It has truly been a wonderful year in many ways, and I would like to thank my family, friends, and clients (some people fit more than one category!) for your support this year. I truly appreciate everytime you take the time to comment or view my page. I still have a lot of growing to do, but all the beautiful compliments I receive really keep me going when I doubt myself. I want to share some of my favorite 2011 moments with you today.

There is something so special about capturing the first precious weeks of life. Truly, what a miracle!

I was especially excited to be able to meet my nephew Miles in California, and take his photos when he was just 5 days old.

I love photographing babies as their personalities really start shining through. And especially being able to photograph a sweet friend who is also a photographer.

I got a question this year, why are most of my client redheads? Well, that is not exactly true, but the ones I did capture were memorable–and pretty darn cute!

One of my favorite thing to capture as a photographer is the interaction between siblings. Having two boys of my own, I think it is interesting how different sibling relationships can be.

Another favorite relationship to cature is parents with their children, I love all the unposed playful, serious, and loving moments!

All the loving families and parents that were so patient with their children really touched my heart!

I also enjoyed getting to take individual portraits. I love being able to capture someone’s personality…and I try to avoid the dreaded cheesy smile.

As much as I enjoy working with children and families, some of my favorite sessions this year were with the Rawlins High School seniors! What a lovely group of kids, and I wish them all success as they enter 2012, their graduating year! Because I could not narrow them down…an image from my first senior session and from my last.

I had the honor to photograph several wedding this year! It is wonderful to be able to capture all the special moments and details of a couple’s day. 2011 marks the year of a dream coming true! My best friend, Michelle, and I have dreamed for years of having a business together…and when we started brainstorming ideas, wedding photographer was at the top of the list! It was so fun to capture this wedding together.

And a big thanks to my wonderful husband for supporting me in pursuing my dream of becoming a photographer–and went so far as second shooting the wedding below with me this summer! I couldn’t have done any of this without him! I love you!

Finally, thanks to my boys, who let me practice on them daily…and go quietly to play together when I am editing galleries and doing behind the scene work. I love you boys!

While this post is already MUCH longer than I intended (I was shooting for the top 11 of 2011), I still feel sad for all the images in my “favorites” folder that I am not posting! Hopefully my clients are enjoying them on their own walls instead! Thank you for revisiting 2011 with me! I hope to capture some of your special moments in 2012.

Happy New Year!

I have really enjoyed all my clients in 2011! It has been so great to meet all the amazing people in town that otherwise I may not have. I just want to thank all my families, including the one featured below, for being so flexible with our crazy Wyoming weather! This session below was supposed to take place at the park…but it was blizzarding out. We decided to stay inside where it was warm. If you have enough window light and don’t mind me moving around your furniture, indoor sessions are welcome in these cold, winter months!!

I am always thrilled to take family photos for a fellow photographer–and also a little nervous. The weather this day did nothing to calm me down–it was absolutely freezing! Of course, in Wyoming the wind and cold could always be worse, so we toughed it out for an outdoor portrait and then went to warm up with some hot chocolate! Thanks guys for braving the weather and being flexible with our change of location!

This session worked out perfectly!! New brother was born just in time for holiday pictures, and we designed the cutest birth announcement/holiday card just for the occasion. Baby Ethan never fell fully asleep for us, but he was very mild mannered and let me pose him and play dress-up with my new hat. His brother and sister were great assistants and were eager for their turns to hold him!

I got to meet this wonderful family shortly before they moved to Colorado. When going over location choices, we decided to capture some distinct Rawlins landmarks to mark their time living here. We headed toward the Uplift and the Old Penn. I think the windy, snowy weather was the icing on the cake! A true Wyoming winter day. I really enjoyed working with this family, and I know they will be missed by all their friends!
