If you don’t like cute, smiley, squishy babies, please close your browser immediately!! I am so happy my sister and nephew Miles were able to join us in Tucson, AZ (at my other sister’s house) for Easter. The weekend went by way too fast, but luckily I had my camera on hand…I know he is going to be so much bigger next time I get to see him.

I am taking a moment today to reflect on 2011. It has truly been a wonderful year in many ways, and I would like to thank my family, friends, and clients (some people fit more than one category!) for your support this year. I truly appreciate everytime you take the time to comment or view my page. I still have a lot of growing to do, but all the beautiful compliments I receive really keep me going when I doubt myself. I want to share some of my favorite 2011 moments with you today.
There is something so special about capturing the first precious weeks of life. Truly, what a miracle!

I was especially excited to be able to meet my nephew Miles in California, and take his photos when he was just 5 days old.

I love photographing babies as their personalities really start shining through. And especially being able to photograph a sweet friend who is also a photographer.

I got a question this year, why are most of my client redheads? Well, that is not exactly true, but the ones I did capture were memorable–and pretty darn cute!

One of my favorite thing to capture as a photographer is the interaction between siblings. Having two boys of my own, I think it is interesting how different sibling relationships can be.

Another favorite relationship to cature is parents with their children, I love all the unposed playful, serious, and loving moments!

All the loving families and parents that were so patient with their children really touched my heart!

I also enjoyed getting to take individual portraits. I love being able to capture someone’s personality…and I try to avoid the dreaded cheesy smile.

As much as I enjoy working with children and families, some of my favorite sessions this year were with the Rawlins High School seniors! What a lovely group of kids, and I wish them all success as they enter 2012, their graduating year! Because I could not narrow them down…an image from my first senior session and from my last.

I had the honor to photograph several wedding this year! It is wonderful to be able to capture all the special moments and details of a couple’s day. 2011 marks the year of a dream coming true! My best friend, Michelle, and I have dreamed for years of having a business together…and when we started brainstorming ideas, wedding photographer was at the top of the list! It was so fun to capture this wedding together.

And a big thanks to my wonderful husband for supporting me in pursuing my dream of becoming a photographer–and went so far as second shooting the wedding below with me this summer! I couldn’t have done any of this without him! I love you!

Finally, thanks to my boys, who let me practice on them daily…and go quietly to play together when I am editing galleries and doing behind the scene work. I love you boys!

While this post is already MUCH longer than I intended (I was shooting for the top 11 of 2011), I still feel sad for all the images in my “favorites” folder that I am not posting! Hopefully my clients are enjoying them on their own walls instead! Thank you for revisiting 2011 with me! I hope to capture some of your special moments in 2012.
Happy New Year!

Couldn’t resist posting a few images of my sister’s sweet little baby bump. She lives in San Diego, so it might be awhile before I see it again. Crossing my fingers I can at least see (and photograph) my nephew when he arrives.

I have recently become addicted to Pinterest, a site that helps you organize and share all the amazing things you find on the web. You “pin” things to your virtual inspiration board and can go back and reference them later. I spend a lot of time pinning beautiful photographs, fun activities for the kids, and yummy foods to make. One thing I have been drawn to lately are all the beautiful quotes and sayings floating around. Here is one I put together from a quote I found on pinterest. Enjoy!

My oldest is in Tucson visiting his grandparents, aunt, and cousin–and my husband is out of town for work. So I have been busy playing with my favorite four year old. We went out of town for the day to get his yearly check-up, played at the splash pad, and relaxed at the park. A few fun photos–I am getting lazy with my personal photos, so these have minimal editing, just a quick adjustment in Lightroom!

Perhaps you can tell by their impish grins that they were not being so sweet? My seven year old left yesterday for a week and a half with his grandparents in Tucson, AZ! He is just in heaven, especially since they brought their puppy up, and he gets to play with her in the car the whole way back. His mom and little brother are a little sad though, so I had the great idea to take a few sibling shots before he left. The boys really didn’t think that was such a fun idea, so we only ended up taken a few snaps. Oh well, I am always happy to have a few new photos of them together–especially ones that mark a momentous occassion–first trip away from home! We miss you already!!

And a more “real” moment from the evening…

This has been a week full of movement! My boys are both signed up for a week long soccer camp, along with some of their best friends. In addition, James finished his last week of baseball, and I am so proud of their team for winning second place in the championship game! Plus, we are trying to squeeze in all the other summertime activities…movies with friends, water fights with neighbors, and a few photo sessions in this gorgeous warm weather.
I had planned to try a few things with a blurry, moving soccer ball at the end of soccer camp…but we got rained out! So I am just going to post a few of the images I took at soccer camp yesterday…
Now see what the talented Lucy, Adelaide Photographer, has posted this week!

This week, I am joining photographers from around the world to share photos of Fatherly Love. My boys are extremely lucky–they have the best Father in the World! He has so much patience and spends hours with them– tossing around the football, creating intricate Lego sculptures, and explaining to them how everything works. He also has a stern, protective side to him…the side that has taken me by surprise, and is sculpting our boys into two wonderful little men.
I love the symmetry of the first two images…my youngest son having fun riding on a four wheeler…and being tossed in the air…but in both images his hand is firmly holding on to his dad…for security.
The second set of images is my attempt to get a Fatherly Love picture gone horribly wrong! It seems that everytime I get my camera out, it is a signal for my kids to push someone over…even their dad!

The boys have been very anxious for their Grandma from Tucson to arrive–and she came a few weeks early! She must have brought some sun from Arizona, because we had the most wonderful weather this weekend (except for the wind that blew away part of our picnic lunch). The boys enjoyed reading and snuggling with Grandma….and took advantage of the fresh grass and sunshine. I love these messy, crazy photos of my boys playing Kung Fu Panda/Leap Frog. As a photographer, I love capturing beautiful light, matching outfits, and cute poses, but as a mom, I think I will enjoy looking back at these photos much more! My boys and how they act everyday! I love to capture these types of moments for my clients too–hopefully their kids won’t get quite as many grass stains! Oh and the first peaches of the summer…my boys’ favorite fruit.

This Friday, the theme is your favorite flower (assuming, perhaps, some mothers had leftover bouquets from Mother’s Day). My eyes had skipped ahead a few weeks, so I realized in the middle of the day that the photo I had ready for tomorrow was not for this week’s theme. I had to get some flowers…and fast. I mentioned this to my three year old who immediately came up with the solution. And to be honest, any flower given to me by one of my sons is my favorite flower in the world!
Make sure to see what Leah from Birth Express has captured this week!!
