5 Must Take Maternity Photos for Staying Home

If you are pregnant and had to reschedule or cancel your professional maternity session due to Covid-19, don’t miss out on capturing this special time. Here are 5 must take maternity photos that you can do with your own camera or cell phone! If you have a safe and pretty spot in your neighborhood, head out right before sunset. If you prefer to stay inside, turn off your lights and get close to a window mid-day. Have your partner take the photos, bring a sibling or find a creative way to balance your phone and use a self-timer. Have fun and don’t worry about perfection!

Mom-to-be hugging her belly -Place both hands under your stomach, or one hand over and one hand under. Get some variety by looking both down at your belly, up to the camera, and out in the distance.

Close up of belly – Stand with your body perpendicular to the camera to get a beautiful profile view of mom’s hands embracing her stomach. Experiment with getting in close (belly only) and backing up for a waist up shot.

Sibling shot – Keep the same perpendicular stance to the camera and have sibling hold and kiss mom’s belly, sing a song or “feed” the baby a small treat.

Parents together– With a tripod (or a cooperating child), take a photo of dad standing behind mom, and mom leaning into dad (both facing the camera). Dad can embrace moms arms and mom’s arms can be on her belly.

Special item– Have some fun! Play with portrait mode! Mom can hold an ultra-sound scan, baby shoes, or other small item in front of her belly. Partner can focus on that item and the belly will blur out in the background!
