Colorado Staycation | Family Photographer

In this busy season it’s important to take time to slow down.

With the hustle and bustle of the upcoming holidays, plenty of family photos, hosting dinners, shopping for gifts, and kids finishing up the semester, it’s easy to get caught up in it all.

One of my favorite ways to “regroup” and refresh with a little R& R is having a “staycation” in our beautiful state of Colorado.

Why a staycation in Colorado?

  • So many locations in our gorgeous state are within driving distance.
  • We have amazing views and scenery
  • There are so many outdoor activities, year round!
  • Great food and breweries
  • If you are in the mood for snow, you can often travel to the mountains and find some! (Especially during the fall and winter months!)

While there are many options when it comes to going somewhere for a Colorado “staycation” I’d like to share a few favorites.

Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort and Spa

Devil’s Thumb Ranch is about 15 minutes from Winter Park, or about an hour and a half from Denver! DTR is a gorgeous ranch themed resort in the mountains. There are so many activities like horseback riding, fat tire biking, snowshoeing, ice skating, and horse drawn sleigh rides. At DTR there are rooms at the main lodge and there are separate log cabins! The food is wonderful at Devil’s Thumb Ranch and there are several restaurants. It truly is a magical hidden getaway! If you are looking for a luxury getaway with delicious food and plenty of activities this is the place for you!

Another wonderful place to have a Colorado staycation is in Estes Park! It’s a bit closer to Denver and just as beautiful as the high country! Plenty of hiking, an adorable downtown full of restaurants and shops, a lake, and you can always spot Elk walking around! There are plenty of options when looking for somewhere to stay, but a favorite of ours is a cabin at Mountain Village- at Lake Estes!

These cabins are rustic chic with 2 bedrooms/bathrooms, a full kitchen, living room, and a hot tub! It’s a home away from home! Perfect for a couples getaway or for a family vacation. Enjoy cooking dinner and playing games together after exploring Estes Park!

No matter where or when you enjoy a “stay-cation” this season, I hope you are able to find a way to regroup and enjoy family time together. No matter what that looks like for you!
