Denver City Park Family Photography: When the Wild Moments Make the Best Photos

Three little kids. Two dogs. One beautiful evening at Denver City Park.
Let’s just say the posing portion of this family photography session was… brief. 😂
And honestly? That was completely fine.

Some of my favorite family photos happen when everyone stops trying to sit still and simply does what they would normally do together. Kids run. Dogs wander. Someone gets distracted. Someone laughs. Parents try to keep everyone headed in roughly the same direction.
That’s real family life, and it makes for some pretty great photos.
For this Denver City Park family session, we let the kids and dogs move around, explored the park, played a little and embraced the fact that keeping three little kids and two dogs perfectly posed was never really going to happen.

That’s one of the reasons I love photographing families outdoors in Denver. A place like City Park gives kids room to move and families room to interact naturally, instead of turning the entire session into a series of “everyone look at the camera” moments.

You’ll still get the beautiful family portraits, of course. But you’ll also get the in-between stuff: the running, the cuddling, the laughing, the slightly chaotic moments and the personalities that make your family yours.
Because the best family photos don’t always happen when everyone is looking at the camera.

Sometimes they happen when nobody is.
If you’re looking for a Denver family photographer for relaxed, natural family photos with kids, dogs and all the wonderfully unpredictable parts of family life, Denver City Park is a beautiful place for a session.
And yes, we can absolutely try to get everyone to sit still for a photo.

No promises on how long that will last. 😂
