Denver Family Photographer
Things to do in Denver
Even though my job as a Denver family photographer is flexible, I find myself slipping into an easy routine of picking up my kids from the bus stop and getting back to my computer to work while they do homework and play. While this is often necessary, I made the commitment this year to take advantage of their half-day on Wednesday to have an adventure together. The boys call this Wacky Wednesday! We have visited historical places (such as high tea at the Molly Brown House), a candy factory, the Denver Mint, natural areas and more. Sometimes we just stay home and rent a movie or play a board game together.
This past Wednesday we headed to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado. The non-profit sanctuary resuces abused wild animals and relocates them to a 720 acre refuge located northeast of Denver. When you enter the sanctuary signs are posted to discourage you from slowing down until you reach the parking lot (as to not frighten the animals). Once you have checked in, you journey on a mile long elevated walkway, constructed as a non-threatening way to view all the incredible wild animals. Volunteers are readily available to answer questions and provide you details about the animals. We loved learning how they integrated newly rescued animals with those already roaming their spacious habitats. It was so fun to look out and see prides of lions, tigers, packs of wolves, and thanks to the warm winter a few of the 100 bears that should have been hibernating. This was a great and meaningful way to spend several hours on a beautiful winter day, and I encourage you to visit!
