Denver Photographer | Indoor Lifestyle Session

Lifestyle sessions take place in your home and are the perfect way to document your family in an authentic, beautiful way. With my recent transition to solely in-home lifestyle newborn photo sessions I wanted to give some advice on preparing your home before a newborn or family session with a Denver photographer.Your home is where your children feel most comfortable. As time goes on you may redecorate or even move from your home. An in-home session captures memories such as the way you snuggle with your babies on your bed or how they couldn’t go anywhere without their favorite toy.Denver Photographer | www.julielivermorephotography.comYou have taken time and care to decorate and personalize your home. Your taste and style will make your images unique. The colors, textures and patterns will add beautiful depth to your images. Plus they will coordinate when displaying wall art such such as a gallery canvas or framed prints in that same room.
Some families might feel nervous about having photographs taken in their home, but there’s really nothing to worry about. Your home decor is a reflection of your family’s personality and there’s no need to have a Pinterest-worthy home to get in-home photos done. That being said, if you’re looking to spruce up your space before a session here are a few easy to implement tips:

  • Plants or fresh flowers easily add a pop of color and life to your space. Not great at taking care of plants? The experts at HGTV suggest collecting a few cut branches from outside and displaying in a vase for a low maintenance addition.
  • Throw pillows are an affordable way to update your style without having to replace your living room furniture. You can find pillows to match any decor style and they can be a fun way to play around with pattern and texture in your room without a big commitment.
  • Recently on their blog the interior designers at Havenly recommend giving your decor, whether it’s a styled bookshelf or a gallery wall, room to breathe. This really helps your items from looking cluttered in photos and allows special pieces to take the spotlight.

When I first arrive in your home, I will quickly walk around looking for the most ideal light! Usually it will be in a room with a large window. One thing that may surprise you, I will turn off lamps and use beautiful soft window light only in my portraits. The master bedroom and living room are my go to rooms. While I ask that you tidy up before I arrive, please don’t feel like you have to scrub your entire home. I can look past a few dust bunnies and will move any distracting objects. The main goal of an in-home family session is to be comfortable and relaxed.
During our time together, I love incorporating your personal home decor into our portraits. The nursery is usually one room where families have put a lot of love into their decor. Feel free to let me know the story behind any special pieces and I can be sure to incorporate them into a shot. You’ll always remember the excitement and anticipation of putting together the nursery and having that space captured will be an important memory. The same applies for a family session. I want to capture what home means to you.

I’m excited about joining more families in their homes for lifestyle sessions and I’d love for you to be one of them! Visit my contact page to schedule your session and in the meantime be sure to keep up with me on Facebook and Instagram.
