The Magic of a Flatirons Photo Session: More Than Just Pictures

Flatirons Photo Session

As a family photographer in Boulder, I always hope that the images I capture will be meaningful to the families I work with. But sometimes, I get a beautiful reminder that these sessions are more than just pictures—they’re moments that become treasured memories.

A mom recently shared this sweet story with me:

“I was driving my three-year-old to school, and we were heading toward the Flatirons. She said, ‘Remember when that lady took our picture in the mountains? … She took our pictures, and I tickled Daddy’s nose, and I smiled. That was really nice of her.’ And then she trailed off into a story about a barn. It was really sweet, and I was surprised that she recalled our photo session so well. What you do matters, just in case you were wondering.” 💕

Her daughter didn’t just remember posing for a photo—she remembered the feeling of the day. The laughter, the playfulness, the connection. This is why I always encourage families to embrace the moment, to be present with their children, and not to stress about perfect smiles or stiff poses. The best family photos come from real interactions, from the way you snuggle your little one, the way they giggle at an inside joke, or—even better—the way they remember tickling Dad’s nose long after the session is over.

Because years from now, when they look back at these images, they won’t just see a photograph—they’ll remember the joy of that moment.
