You might recognize this gorgeous family from my recent Instagram post. I met this couple when they were the music teachers at the small town we all lived at in Wyoming. Since then, we have moved twice in Colorado, and they have relocated to Cheyenne! Luckily, we are still able to meet up in Longmont every year for family photos. They certainly have a special place in my heart…and a very precious THREE year old daughter. She is so adorable and funny, I could photograph her all day! Which leads me to the topic of this post, how long will my photo session last? The easy answer to this, is about an hour. I occasionally have people question the length of the session…either wondering if an hour is enough time or concerned an hour is too long for their children. I never set a timer, but I find an hour to be the perfect time to allot for a family session. I work quickly at the beginning of our time together to get all the “must have” images. Then as everyone gets tired of smiling and posing, our sessions become more playful and less structured! Sometimes we stay and hang out (and take images) well past an hour, but often times kids are hungry or tired (and quite honestly dads usually tap out then too). You will be surprised how many unique and beautiful images we can get in that timeframe…and leave while everyone still has smiles on their faces!
