Welcoming a second baby into the family is always a beautiful mix of excitement, adjustment, and real life unfolding in the moment. Parents often imagine that first sibling meeting as a magical, picture-perfect moment—but with toddlers, it’s often a little more… honest than that. And that’s part of what makes it so meaningful.

Recently, I photographed a newborn session in Westminster, Colorado for a family welcoming their second baby boy. Their older son was curious about his new little brother, but like many toddlers, his attention didn’t last long. He came over to take a few sweet looks at the baby, gently checked him out, and then quickly moved on with toddler life—right before heading down for his nap.
And honestly? Those little moments were perfect.

We captured some incredibly darling images of big brother peeking at his newborn sibling, sitting close beside him for a few quiet moments, and taking in the new addition to the family. They weren’t forced or overly posed—they were simply real moments of curiosity and connection before toddler energy took over.
That’s one of the things I love most about photographing families with newborns in Westminster and the Denver area. Sessions are relaxed and flexible, which means we can follow the rhythm of the family. Toddlers don’t need to perform or sit perfectly still for long periods of time. Even a few minutes of interest can create beautiful images that tell the story of this season.

After big brother went down for his nap, the session naturally shifted to quieter moments with the new baby and his parents. Those calm moments—parents holding their newborn, soaking in the tiny details and sleepy stretches—are often some of the most meaningful photographs from the day.

The early days of welcoming a second baby are rarely perfectly choreographed. They’re filled with toddler personalities, shifting routines, and moments that unfold in their own way. But that’s exactly what makes these images so special—they capture your family exactly as you are in this fleeting season.

If you’re expecting or have recently welcomed a baby and are looking for a newborn photographer in Westminster, Colorado or the Denver area, I’d love to help you document these early days. My goal is always to create a calm, low-stress experience where families can simply be themselves while I capture the moments that matter most.

Because before you know it, your toddler will be running circles around their little sibling—and these first quiet introductions will already feel like a distant memory.
