Spring Family Photos with a One-Year-Old (and a Proud Big Brother)

There’s something really special about the one-year mark.

It’s that in-between season where your baby isn’t quite a baby anymore—but still reaches for you, still melts into your shoulder, still needs you in that quiet, familiar way.

And when there’s an older sibling in the mix? It adds a whole other layer.

This spring session was the perfect example of that.

Big brother was equal parts playful and protective—running, leading, sneaking in hugs when no one asked. And little sister (freshly one) was right there with him, taking it all in. The connection between them didn’t need much direction. It never does.

That’s the thing about sessions with young kids—especially around age one. They’re not about perfect smiles or everyone looking at the camera.

They’re about:

  • the way your one-year-old reaches for your hand
  • the way your older child naturally steps into their role
  • the movement, the chaos, the sweetness in between

Spring is such an easy, beautiful time for this stage.

The light is soft, everything feels a little more relaxed, and kids can just be kids—barefoot, exploring, held when they need it. There’s no pressure to perform. Just space to be together.

If you’re thinking about documenting this season—especially with a one-year-old and an older sibling—know this:

You don’t need perfectly coordinated outfits.
You don’t need your toddler to “cooperate.”
You don’t need everything to go as planned.

You just need to show up.

I’ll guide the rest in a way that feels natural and easy, so your kids can settle in quickly—and you can actually enjoy it too.

Because a year from now, what you’ll care about isn’t whether everyone smiled at the same time.

It’s that you can remember exactly what this felt like.
