It was such a treat to photograph this gorgeous and kind family again! Last year, we did their family photos in an urban setting. The photos turned out awesome, but too be honest we were all miserable! The weather had abruptly changed and it may have been one of my coldest sessions ever!! This year we had almost summer like temperatures and gorgeous golden light!
This family has such a natural ease as a group, they make my job simple. While each family dynamic and interaction is different, there are a few things I love to capture at every session! Here are a few of my go to images…and why they are important to me!
- Photographing families standing to capture their current height! My 14 year old son is officially several inches taller than me, and it’s so sweet to look back at old photos when I could still look down and throw my arms around his shoulders. If you have a boy…it happens before you know it!
- Images of each parent interacting with the kids. I held my younger son constantly. Maybe a little too much, as he didn’t even attempt to walk until he was well over a year old. I do remember when he was starting to get too heavy to lift, I had my husband take some photos of me holding him. I treasure these now that he is nearly as tall as me. Whether it’s twirling your daughter in her cute new dress, putting your son on your shoulders, or giving your baby a kiss on the cheek…these little moments that seem ordinary, will be just a memory someday…let’s capture them!
- Photos of just the siblings. This seems obvious, but as kids get bigger, it’s more difficult to get them to nicely squish together and get a photo. But as parent’s, we love these type of shots! They are especially good reminders of how sweet they can be to one another on those days it seems the bickering never ends. Usually, since I am not their own mom or dad…kid’s will humor me enough for one quick and painless squishy sibling shot!
