I can’t believe this is the third year I have photographed this beautiful family of three! It’s so fun to catch up with families and see what they have been up to the past year. It was a walking coffee date chatting with this trio about their recent trip and hearing about the first day of Kindergarten coming up! And if you can’t tell… Caiden always keeps me on my toes! I love when the kids come ready to play, explore and tell me things…and forget they are having their photos taken.
I want to share what to expect from your family photoshoot. First, I am always excited to greet your family. After chatting over email and maybe becoming connected on Instagram, we might even already feel like we know each other. I know getting everyone picture perfect and to our location in one piece isn’t easy. It’s ok if you show up a little nervous or stressed the first time we work together. We will wander over to the areas with the best light, and I will start posing your family to put everyone at ease. We often start with a traditional posed image while the kids are still interested in me, but as our time together unfolds, most of the session will be focused on your interactions. Don’t worry, I will pose and guide you, but just know you will be snuggling, playing and laughing with your family, not sitting stiffly trying to make your kids behave for an hour.
I try to keep sessions under an hour…and I think you will be surprised by how many great and unique images we get in that period of time! Any longer kids start to fade and get tired (and hungry!). To be honest dads usually do too. But there is definitely no strict clock if we lose track of time. And don’t worry if your child becomes distracted or isn’t perfect during our session. I am usually pretty good at keeping them busy, but they are just kids and after doing this for almost a decade (and being a mom to two energetic boys myself) I know we will have a great session together no matter what!
