How to capture your baby's first year | Denver First Year Photographer

I could not be more grateful for the families who connect with my work and trust me time and time again to capture their memories. There is something so amazing about documenting a newborn and then seeing them walking a year later…it’s like watching a movie in fast forward! If you are expecting, I want to share a little info on how to capture your baby’s first year!
A maternity session is always recommended and I talk more about that here. This is such a huge milestone in YOUR life and it’s so great to capture the excitement and anticipation you have before your family dynamic changes (whether it’s your first baby or your third or fourth or…have all the babies!).
Obviously, a newborn session is essential. Those first few weeks are some of the most special, but is also a bit of a blur. You will spend hours upon hours just gazing at the new little human in your life and you will want those photographs to look back on through the years. In the moment you won’t be able to imagine them getting bigger (the thought might even bring you to tears!), but they will grow and change…and having these images will be even more special as the years go on!
If you miss that newborn mark, please don’t feel bad. You are a new parent and have a lot going on. I am more than happy to come to your home or meet you at a beautiful outdoor setting to capture them while they are still tiny. I always schedule newborns the first few weeks while your baby is sleepy and curled up…but how GORGEOUS is this session with a baby just a few months old???
Most parents contact me again right around six months when their baby is starting to sit up, crawl and has the cutest little rolls on their arms and legs. This is one of my favorite ages to capture! This session is typically done outdoors, but my natural light studio or your home are option depending on the weather and your baby! Here is a little guy I photographed at six months in home (and since then have photographed his two new siblings and all their milestones too)!
Finally, it’s time to celebrate baby’s first birthday! What a year! Your baby is probably trying to walk, getting lots of teeth and babbling or even saying first words to you. As with all my sessions, the first year session isn’t just about the baby, it’s about the family. So we will take family photographs and then take a few photos of just the birthday babe. If you love the idea, feel free to bring a cake to smash at the end of our session. This session can be done outdoors like this session or indoors as seen with this adorable family below!!
