I appreciate this gorgeous little family for trusting me to capture the portraits of both of their newborn girls! Especially as I made a big transition from their first to second daughter. I now offer a more lifestyle approach to my newborn sessions. I used to drag around a huge posing bag along with a background stand, blankets and more. I gave parents precise instructions to keep baby sleepy so we could move through a series of unnatural poses. When I arrived there was time spent unpacking and setting up…plus settling a baby who most likely wanted to be held by its parents (or at the very least in a tight swaddle). I crossed my fingers that the baby wouldn’t pee all over my backdrops (and me). The result was pretty, but didn’t exactly represent me as an artist. Now, I offer a more organic, semi-posed approach. These sessions are shorter and more relaxed. There is more time to cuddle and snuggle on the bed as a family. I still bring my expert wrapping skills and a cute prop or two, but I spend more time focused on the family interactions and how it FEELS to bring your new baby home. I hope you love these images as much as I do! And I can’t wait to see the first image hanging in their home…we discovered after that we used the same headband on both girls!
